Our Agency
ORGANIZATIONAL
HISTORY
Asian Human
Services was established in 1978 to meet the social-service needs of the
pan-Asian community in Chicago. Now we serve thousands
of clients each year from many countries, and offer low-income, at-risk
members of our community a wide range of social programs.
An agency that
began humbly in 1978 now has an annual operating budget of close to
$8 million. We receive
our funding from a wide array of federal, state, city and foundation grants, and
private contributions.
OUR MISSION
Asian Human
Services exists to provide quality, compassionate, and culturally
competent services in over 28 languages to low-income
Asian-American and immigrant and refugee communities in metropolitan Chicago.

Passages Charter School is just to the south of Uptown. Our Family
Health Center is on the northwest side of Chicago and in Rogers Park.
We also have one
office on Chicago’s Southside in Chinatown and our newest office is in
suburban Palatine.
STAFF DIVERSITY
More than one
hundred highly qualified staff members, many immigrants themselves,
reflect the diversity of our clientele. Our team members were born in
many countries, including India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Korea, China, Iran,
and Bosnia. Asian Human Services is unique in the way that it manages
continued growth, increased clients with more services, and expanded
locations. Yet we retain our initial character: highly qualified
professionals who mirror the makeup of the clientele: diverse,
immigrant-based, and committed to the community.
