Our goal in the LEAF program is to provide low-income immigrants the educational services they need to flourish in an English-speaking environment. To do this, we offer the following activities:

ADULT EDUCATION

The Literacy Education for Adults and Families (LEAF) offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to low-income adult immigrants living on Chicago's North Side. Our three English classes are for Beginning and Intermediate-level students. We also offer classes in Basic and Intermediate Computer Skills courses which include accessing the internet, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Our adult education program offers a weekly parenting class.

CHILD CARE

For parents with preschool children who are enrolled in our ESL classes, we offer a child care program for children ages 1 to 5. We have a ratio of approximately one teacher per four children, and do many activities to prepare children for kindergarten and preschool.

AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER CAMP

Children in grades 1-6 meet daily with tutors to work on homework and reading skills. In addition, they do arts and crafts and play educational games. The parents participate in a weekly parenting class and an activity with their children, and they may also take ESL classes at our site. From June-August, we run a summer camp for kids whose parents are enrolled in our program.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Each week, families come together for Parent and Child Together (PACT) activities, which provide an opportunity to play together, create art projects, enjoy story time and visit the library. This class is for families enrolled in the LEAF program.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Monday to Friday, 9:00-5:00. Our ESL classes and child care run daily from 9:15-1:00 and on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-5:00.. We offer a morning computer skills class, from 9:15-11:30, and an afternoon class from 2:15-4:30. Our after-school program is from Monday to Friday, 3:00-5:30.
