Education is the cornerstone to success for any immigrant or underserved group, giving clients the tools they need to succeed. Asian Human Services offers a range of services for people at all stages of learning.
Passages Charter School Passages Charter School serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Focused specifically on the needs of immigrant and refugee students, and of students from all neighborhoods in the City of Chicago, Passages offers a tailored educational program focused on high academic standards and differentiation of instruction based on student’s individual needs. The school follows an English Immersion program model.
Adult and Family Literacy (the LEAF Program) The Literacy Education for Adults and Families (LEAF) program offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for low-income adult immigrants living on Chicago's North Side. Available classes include: Beginning and Intermediate-level English; Basic and Intermediate Computer Skills (Internet, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel); and Parenting classes for students with preschoolers and school-age children.
Early Childhood Education For parents with preschool children who are enrolled in our ESL classes, we offer a licensed daycare program for children ages 2 to 5. With a ratio of approximately one teacher per four children, activities are designed to prepare children for kindergarten and preschool.
After School Programs Children from local elementary schools meet daily with tutors to work on homework and reading skills or take part in arts and crafts and play educational games. From June-August, we run a summer camp for kids whose parents are enrolled in ESL programs.
