We Offer
Banyan Tree
Banyan Tree reaches out to the HIV/AIDS
community, both those infected and affected. It provides prevention education, outreach, case
management, individual counseling and support groups, complementary
therapy, and housing advocacy to HIV positive
Asian-Americans and non-Asians living on the north side. Services include
the African Refugee AIDS Project (ARAP) and the Asian American Pacific
Islanders Outreach Program in suburban Cook County. Ongoing needs
assessments are conducted on HIV prevention and service delivery.
Project Sunrise
Project Sunrise offers case management services and linkages to families
with children who are developmentally disabled, in
order to increase their
independence and life enrichment. We offer support groups for parents in
various Asian communities.
AWARE (Asian Women Advocate for Reproductive Health Equality)
The AWARE program focuses on education and research-based advocacy on a
wide range of women’s reproductive health issues – including prenatal
care, birth control, STD prevention, and breast and cervical cancer
prevention.
Asian Women Speak Out
This program is designed to empowers domestic violence victims with
resources and skills by linking them to social services, and to change
cultural norms and attitudes of both men and women through prevention and
education.
Community Health Fairs
We host free annual Winter and Spring Health Fairs for health/cancer
screenings, immunization, healthy lifestyles education (including
nutrition), and physician referrals.
Asian American Diabetes Education Campaign
This program provides diabetes prevention and management information and
risk assessment to the Asian American community. Blood glucose testing is
provided through education sessions and health fairs.
Asian Community Against Tobacco
This is a tobacco cessation program that targets adult Asian immigrants
and refugees. The program also recruits Asian-owned businesses to
participate in the city of Chicago tobacco-free business ordinance. An
Asian ethnic media campaign seeks to reach a broad range of Asian
immigrant communities in the Chicago area.
Heart Smart for Women
This program aims to prevent heart disease through developing healthy
lifestyles among Asian American women. Participants attend a series of 12
prevention education sessions to learn behavior skills that help them
increase physical activities and eat healthy diets.
Positive Parenting (P2)
P2 provides positive parenting education sessions on child development and
parenting skills among immigrant and refugee parents. Case management
services are offered to link program participants to AHS services and
other resources. P2 collaborates with Passages Charter School in
implementing a a conflict resolution curriculum.
Healthy Living ABC
Healthy Living ABC provides nutrition and physical fitness lessons to
children ages 3 to 12 at schools, clubs, and community organizations on
Chicago’s north side.
