The Mental Health Program was the first service provided by Asian Human Services upon its founding in 1978. Programming is designed to meet the psychological and social needs of Asian immigrant and refugee communities of metropolitan Chicago. The program is Medicaid-certified and nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

We provide comprehensive mental health services and links to internal and external resources for Asian immigrants and refugees in the metropolitan Chicago area. Our goal is to provide culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services so that clients can achieve independent and productive lives, and integrate effectively with mainstream society.

Counseling

Individual, Group, and Couple/Family Counseling and Therapy is offered to cope with chronic mental illness, social isolation, acculturation, and intergenerational conflict.

Psychiatric Services

Our psychiatrists provide evaluation and medication monitoring and our bi-lingual staff offers interpretation for our clients and psychiatrists.

Emergency Services

We maintain 24-hour emergency services for our clients when crisis intervention is required.

Case Management Services

We help our clients access necessary services and advocate for their needs - linking them to other AHS programs such as employment, family health services, and the pro-bono legal clinic, in addition to outside resources.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

This service provides a supportive environment for Asian immigrants with chronic mental illness so that they can learn to manage their symptoms and develop practical life skills through expressive therapies and psycho-educational classes.

HIV/AIDS Counseling

This program offers individual counseling and support groups for individuals and their families who are living with HIV/AIDS.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Counseling/Therapy for those who are 17 years old or under, and their families, to promote healthy development of children and adolescents, and to help them in resolving their social, emotional, behavioral and academic problems.  These services are also provided at Passages Charter School.

Elderly Support Groups

Bi-lingual and bi-cultural support groups are offered for elderly clients to help ease depression and isolation, link them with other needed services and educate the community about problems of untreated depression.
