In 2001, Asian Human Services was awarded a charter by Chicago Public Schools to start Passages Charter School.  Focused specifically on the needs of immigrant and refugee students, Passages offers a tailored educational program focused on high academic standards, for students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. As an English Immersion program, our entire staff is trained in English in Second Language strategies.

OUR UNIQUE FEATURES

Small Class Size

Small student to teacher ratios allow for more individual attention and education that is matched to each student’s needs.

High Academic Standards

We expect every student to perform at or above grade level. Our standardized test scores have shown that we are one of the best-performing small schools in Chicago.

Longer School Day and School Year

Passages offers a longer school day and longer school year. Our school doors open at 7:30 for before-school care, and we have an after-school program that runs until 6:00 each evening, which helps assure working parents that their children are in a safe and educational environment.

Effective and Committed Teachers

Like our students, our diverse teaching staff comes from around the world and speaks many languages. More than 75% of our teachers have Master’s Degrees, and we have strong support staff, including AmeriCorps members.

Strong Parent Network

Passages has an active parent/teacher group that supports all school activities.

Connection to Social Services at AHS

As a division of AHS,  all programs are available to Passages' families.  We can assist parents with adult literacy classes, computer training, employment services, health education and medical assistance.

Mental Health Services

The Mental Health Program at Asian Human Services collaborates with Passages Charter School to help children who are struggling to succeed in school.

Hours of Operation

The school day at Passages runs from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. We are open daily from 7:30 am -6:00 pm, to accommodate children who arrive early or stay late. Please check with a staff member at the school for more information regarding the annual calendar.
