Why were you interested in joining our AmeriCorps program at AHS?The community that AHS serves. I was not aware of the needs of the community and I wanted to learn more about it.
What motivates you as the Daycare & Family Engagement Assistant? The children. They brighten up my day and teach me something different every day.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Chicago? The neighborhoods. Each neighborhood I’ve visited has its own unique environment and culture.
If you could describe your AmeriCorps experience so far in one word or phrase, what would it be? A Learning Experience
What impact do you hope to make in your service? Some of the children we serve come from a tense household, so I try my best to allow them to have fun while teaching them.
What impact do the students you serve have on you? It’s my first working with toddlers and I didn’t know that toddlers would be so quirky. They amaze me every day with the things they do and say.
What’s an AmeriCorps memory you’ll hold onto? My favorite part of it all is coming in every morning and be welcomed with hugs from the children. It’s a great way to start the day.
What are you most proud of so far in your service? I’m proud of the growth I have seen on the children.
Where do you see yourself post-AmeriCorps? I want to continue working with AmeriCorps but in a different neighborhood, just to get a different experience.
Where would you most like to travel to? I would like to travel to Istanbul, Turkey or New Zealand.
Who’s your favorite movie/TV show/book character? My favorite character is Phryne Fisher from Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries.
If you could go back in time, what year or period would you travel to? The 1920’s. That’s mostly influenced by Phryne Fisher.
